Fantasy Football 2014: 3 Offensive Lines That Will Screw Your Fantasy Football Team

Ahhh, it is good to be back and I have missed you!  But I am back and now it is time to get back to the very real business of fantasy football.

So here are my promises:

To give you complete and up to date advise that will help you rule your fantasy league, even if we are in the same league, I’m not scared.

To mention Kyle Long, as much as possible whenever applicable.  Because let’s face it, why wouldn’t I? Yes, he is that sexy.

And to convince those trollers on Twitter that my @neverenoughglt is sports minded.  Not a porn site.  Which in retrospect is an excellent porn site name.  But it’s not, seriously.

Now on to the topic at hand.

You are going to draft your offensive specialty players on the most updated information, last season’s stats, and in some cases what the beer is saying to you.

But don’t ever forget the offensive lines.  They may not get the name recognition.  They may not be as sexy but their impact on your offense is important.  Their job is to protect the quarterbacks and open up running lanes.  If they aren’t performing these tasks, how valuable is your quarterback, wide receiver or running back going to be?

So here are three offensive lines that have the power to upset the balance of your fantasy team.

3. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers lost their left tackle Jordan Gross to retirement.  They still have Cam Newton, albeit recovering from ankle surgery.  Here is the problem.  Last year the Panthers allowed Newton to be sacked 43 times.  They also allowed 61 quarterback hits.  During the playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers the offensive line got brutalized.  Newton was sacked five times.  He also was on the receiving end of eight quarterback hits.  As far as the offensive line opening up running lanes? Didn’t happen.  The Panthers’ rushed for 93 yards on 24 carries.  The were also embarrassingly inefficient in the red zone.

So you are going to draft Newton because of his ability to move out of the pocket and score you double points.  Remember this, his blind side is now open. It will be difficult for those points to materialize if he is getting hit or worse yet getting sacked repeatedly.  Is the Panthers’ offensive line Superman’s kryptonite?cam-newton-1

2. Kansas City Chiefs

During the first few minutes of free agency, the Chiefs lost their top two guards and a left tackle.  Sure Eric Fisher will move from right tackle to left tackle but there is still a gaping hole on the right side.  And there are still plenty of questions regarding Fisher’s ability to be a standout in the NFL.

The five projected starters on the offensive line for the Chiefs have a total of 74 career NFL starts.  That does not inspire confidence.

We all know Jamaal Charles will be one of the top three running backs chosen in fantasy drafts.  Just temper your expectations.  If his line collapses, he will be getting a lot less of his this year. jamaal charles

1. Miami Dolphins

Last season the Dolphins gave up an astonishing 58 sacks.  If I was Ryan Tannehill I might be taking this personally.  Now the Dolphins have made an attempt to solidify the line.  They picked up Branden Albert from the Chiefs.  They also signed guard Shelley Smith and tackle Jason Fox.

I want to depend on Mike Wallace this year.  I also want to sneak in Lamar Miller and have him be a beast.

For that I need the offensive line to be better both on the field and off.
